Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Thursday empowered 2,000 women and youths across the state with Point of Sale (POS) terminals, Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) business registration certificates, and start-up grants.

The event, tagged “Imole Empowerment Scheme 1.0,” was organised by the Ministry of Cooperatives and Empowerment in partnership with First Bank Plc and Fidelity Bank Plc. Adeleke described the initiative as a practical step to equip citizens with tools to create wealth, generate jobs, and support economic growth.

“This initiative is spread across the 30 local governments and area offices of the state to equip our people with skills, opportunities, and support to thrive,” the governor said. “Each beneficiary will walk away with a CAC business registration certificate, a POS terminal, and a start-up grant to immediately begin their journey into entrepreneurship and financial independence.”

He urged beneficiaries to use the empowerment tools effectively, grow their businesses, and support others in their communities. Adeleke added that the scheme was designed to boost small businesses and encourage financial inclusion for women and youths, who he described as the most productive segment of society.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Cooperatives and Empowerment, Mr. Bayo Ogungbangbe, explained that since the ministry was established in July 2023, it had promoted cooperative development and grassroots empowerment. He highlighted previous interventions including programmes for persons with disabilities, executed in partnership with Project Enable Africa and Libra Philanthropies, which provided funds, mentorship, training, and digital tools.

Ogungbangbe said the “Imole Empowerment Scheme 1.0” was more than a presentation of items but a proof of the government’s commitment to sustainable development, youth empowerment, women’s economic participation, and inclusive growth aimed at reducing unemployment and poverty in the state.
