The Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, has approved the allocation of over N2.5 billion to the Federal University of Transportation Daura, FUTD, in Katsina State.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Umar Adam-Katsayal, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Daura. He explained that from the approved 2025 intervention fund, N1.3 billion will be directed to physical infrastructure and programme upgrade.

He added that about N240 million is set aside for academic staff training and development, while N150 million is meant for ICT support. According to him, the library will receive N185 million and N170 million will be used for conference attendance.

Prof. Adam-Katsayal also revealed that N100 million was allocated to research, N180 million for TETFund project maintenance, and N85.5 million for entrepreneurship centres. He further stated that career centres and units will get N100 million, while N25 million each will go into publication of journals and manuscript development.

The Vice Chancellor noted that the institution has introduced a cooperative society for staff members. He explained that the goal was to ensure that in the next five to ten years, any staff member interested should be able to own a personal house.

“There are lands around the university, and we are calling on investors to build houses with the input of staff, so that various categories of workers can own their houses,” he said.

He added that the aim was to ensure staff members, whether junior or senior, do not face challenges after retirement such as not having a house to move into.
