The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has intensified its discussions with new financial partners to enhance the Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS). Jaiz Bank, Taj Bank, Alternative Bank, and Lotus Bank made detailed presentations on the proposed registration portal designed to simplify the savings and registration process for intending pilgrims.
The Hajj Savings Scheme was introduced as a long-term contributory plan to help Nigerian Muslims save systematically towards performing Hajj. By partnering with licensed financial institutions, NAHCON aims to make Hajj more affordable and accessible while reducing last-minute payments and complicated funding arrangements.
Representatives from Taj Bank, Alternative Bank, and Lotus Bank showcased their plans for a secure digital platform where pilgrims will register using their phone number, Bank Verification Number (BVN), and email address. The proposed system is designed to streamline the entire preparation process for Hajj, ensuring transparency and efficiency.
According to the banks, the platform will feature facial verification to enhance security, flexible savings options that allow deposits at any time, and complete transaction histories for easy tracking. It will also provide minor accounts for children under 18 and allow pilgrims to select up to three preferred states of departure and their desired flight dates.
In addition, the system includes institutional dashboards for State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards and NAHCON, giving them superuser access to oversee activities and monitor progress. The banks also introduced an embedded tab within their mobile banking apps, enabling intending pilgrims to register for the scheme with a single click.
During the meeting, the banks addressed recommendations raised in earlier discussions to ensure the system complies with regulatory standards and meets the expectations of prospective pilgrims.
NAHCON officials praised the proposals, describing them as a major step toward modernizing the Hajj Savings Scheme. A NAHCON representative said, “These innovations will enhance efficiency, transparency, and convenience for pilgrims. With strong support from our financial partners, we are creating a sustainable process for Nigerians to fulfill their religious obligations without financial difficulties.”
The collaboration between NAHCON and its financial partners reflects a broader effort to improve Hajj operations by integrating technology-driven solutions. This approach is expected to create a more reliable, smooth, and transparent experience for all pilgrims preparing for the spiritual journey.
