Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the disbursement of N596.6 million as car and housing loans to 807 teaching and non-teaching staff in public secondary schools across the state.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Michael Boluwade, made this known in a statement released in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday. He explained that the initiative was part of efforts to improve the welfare of staff and boost their morale.

Boluwade said, “Out of the total amount approved for disbursement, N381.5m is earmarked for payment of car loan to 382 beneficiaries, while N215.1m will be disbursed as a fresh tranche of housing loan to 425 beneficiaries. The loans, which are in accordance with the new rate of 100 per cent increase earlier approved by the governor, will be paid to qualified personnel of the commission.”

The Permanent Secretary appreciated Governor Oyebanji for approving additional funds to complement the revolving funds of the commission’s Loans Board in effecting the new rates of disbursement. He further advised the beneficiaries to use the money strictly for the purposes it was meant for, reminding them that repayment would be through direct deductions from their monthly salaries.

It will be recalled that during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration, Governor Oyebanji said his administration had put in place several programmes and policies that positively impacted workers’ welfare.

He had listed achievements to include the disbursement of N400 million house and vehicle loans to over 1,447 teaching and non-teaching staff, recruitment of 930 subject teachers in public secondary schools, employment of over 1,500 primary school teachers and 48 education officers, as well as the approval of career progression for primary school teachers up to grade level 16.

Other measures, he noted, included infrastructure upgrade, capacity development programmes, and the approval and payment of minimum wage.
