The Director General of the Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA), Dr. Michael Zira, has assured that Adamawa’s poverty level will drop by forty percent by next year. He linked this optimism to the funds released by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, which are being directed toward empowering youth and women through PAWECA programs.
Dr. Zira made this known in his office in Yola when he received the Luminaries Class of 2024, Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, during a courtesy visit. He emphasized the agency’s focus on vocational training empowerment, adding that these initiatives remain vital in reducing unemployment and creating sustainable jobs.
“The success recorded by PAWECA so far is due to the continued support of Governor Fintiri, and we are committed to building on this foundation,” Dr. Zira stated. He encouraged the visiting students to take advantage of the skills training provided by the agency after their graduation before mobilizing for the National Youth Service Corps.
In his remarks, the team leader, Honorable Sa’ad Mohammed, Speaker of MAU Yola, said the group visited to commend the Director General for his contribution to students’ welfare. According to him, “PAWECA is the best agency that has touched and impacted lives in a positive light across Adamawa State.”
Mohammed also disclosed that the Luminaries Class of 2024 is seeking partnership with PAWECA to promote the programs and policies of the state government, highlighting that youth empowerment, vocational training, and poverty alleviation are vital for community development.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of an award of excellence to Dr. Zira in recognition of his outstanding performance and efforts in supporting youth and women empowerment across the state.
