Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda has launched the distribution of empowerment items worth millions of naira to young men and women, vulnerable groups, and people with special needs. The gesture was made possible through the donation of a philanthropist, Dr. Haruna Umar Mai Wada.
In addition to the items, thirty million naira cash was also given out to support small scale business operators. The ceremony, which took place at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, attracted a large gathering of youths, political leaders, and other dignitaries, including the Chairman of Katsina Local Government, Alhaji Isah Miqdad.
Governor Dikko Umar Radda, in his address before the distribution, expressed gratitude to Dr. Haruna Umar Mai Wada for his generosity. He noted that the donor had provided thirty million naira cash alongside empowerment kits. These items included one hundred motorcycles, thirty-five units of Hijet pickup vans, twenty thousand exercise books, 250 grinding machines, and 500 spaghetti making machines.
The governor explained that his physical presence at the event was to encourage other wealthy citizens to carry out similar philanthropic activities. He recalled previous projects carried out by Dr. Haruna, including a dispensary recently constructed at Filin Samji in Katsina. Governor Radda also promised to attend any social event aimed at providing empowerment support to vulnerable people in order to boost their income.
He praised the donor for including political leaders among the beneficiaries and urged all recipients, especially people with special needs, to make good use of the items to become self-reliant.
Speaking earlier, Dr. Haruna Umar Mai Wada said his humanitarian work was to support the governor’s efforts in uplifting the lives of the common man. He stated, “We are always proud of Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda whose inclusiveness has earned him more respect.” Dr. Haruna, who is also the Chairman of Maiwada Global Concept, pledged to continue offering more humanitarian services to the people of the state.
Engineer Dr. Muttaka Rabe Darma also commended the governor for his openness and fairness in leadership. Similarly, the State Vice Chairman of APC, Bala Abu Musawa, described empowerment as the best way to lift people out of poverty. He called on wealthy individuals in the state to sacrifice part of their wealth to support the vulnerable in society.
