Enugwu-Ukwu International Social Club has taken a major step to support community health by enrolling 190 people from their hometown into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIA) through the Adoption Model. The registration and adoption exercise took place on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Enugwu-Ukwu Civic Center.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ASHIA, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, represented by Mrs. Okoli Tonia, commended the club for investing in the well-being of their people. “This is a clear demonstration of how our Adoption Model works—compassionate individuals and groups taking responsibility to ease the healthcare burden of others. With this gesture, the club has guaranteed affordable and quality healthcare for 190 lives. We urge more groups to replicate this noble initiative,” she said.

As part of the exercise, beneficiaries were guided on how to use their health insurance effectively. They were educated on the processes of accessing services in accredited hospitals, including understanding their rights as enrollees. These rights include access to quality medical care, the freedom to choose from listed service providers, and the ability to seek redress whenever those rights are denied.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Benerd Okonkwo, expressed his appreciation and highlighted the relief it brings to families. He stated that the health coverage would reduce the financial pressure caused by out-of-pocket medical expenses, making healthcare more affordable for ordinary people.

The ASHIA Adoption Model continues to provide opportunities for individuals, associations, and organizations to extend healthcare coverage to members of their communities. By paying annual premiums, such initiatives contribute to expanding universal health coverage and access to affordable healthcare across Anambra State.
