Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has begun the disbursement of the first tranche of the state’s youth empowerment programme, with more than ₦800 million released to support young entrepreneurs.

The initiative, launched on Tuesday at a ceremony in Kano, is part of the administration’s plan to reduce unemployment and promote self-reliance among young people. According to the governor, a total of 5,384 beneficiaries, including both young men and women, have each received ₦150,000, bringing the total to ₦800,700,000 in the first phase.

Governor Yusuf explained that the programme is designed to provide youths with the capital required to start or expand small-scale businesses, making them active contributors to economic development. “We are committed to creating opportunities for our youths so that they can stand on their feet, contribute meaningfully to society, and secure a brighter future,” he said.

The governor urged the beneficiaries to make wise use of the financial support, emphasizing that the initiative is not a handout but an investment in their potential. He encouraged them to use the money in ways that would ensure long-term growth and sustainability.

Governor Yusuf also appealed to those who are yet to benefit from the scheme to remain patient, assuring them that the second tranche of the programme would be released soon. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to policies focused on youth empowerment, job creation, and sustainable livelihoods across Kano State.
