The Pre-Harvest Food Basket initiative of His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni CON continues to impact thousands of households and workers across Yobe State. The decentralized door-to-door delivery led by Yobe SEMA has already provided significant grain support to families, teachers, health workers, and social groups.
So far, 1,780 Primary Health Care staff across 178 facilities in five local governments have received their allocations, while distribution in other areas is ongoing. In addition, 1,200 Tsangaya teachers in selected schools have received their share through the Office of the Focal Person on Tsangaya. A total of 2,000 casual and junior staff of state-owned tertiary institutions have also benefited, with full deliveries completed except for Poly Geidam and CAMTECH.
Further distributions include 600 casual and junior staff of YSUTH and YSSH through their respective heads of institutions, 2,400 bags for persons living with special needs delivered through the PLWD Commission Secretary, and 2,000 junior state civil servants through the Office of the Head of Service. Social groups have also received 2,700 bags, covering Miyetti Allah, Kotal Hore, Kulen Allah, NURTW, widows, and wives of fallen heroes.
Currently, 5,580 primary school teachers are receiving their allocations in an ongoing process. Governor Buni’s administration has ensured that five local governments have already collected their full quota of 1,500 bags each, while every ward-level primary healthcare facility has received 10 bags for 10 staff members.
Concerns were raised in Nguru where some primary school teachers reportedly received half a bag instead of a full 50kg bag. An investigation revealed that the Local Government Education Authority Secretary had shared allocations between primary and junior secondary school teachers, contrary to the governor’s directive that the grains were meant strictly for primary school teachers.
In response, Governor Buni directed the immediate release of 400 additional bags to cover the shortfall. “We will not allow any teacher to be denied their rightful share,” the governor assured.
This intervention highlights the government’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and accountability. An independent Post-Distribution Monitoring will also be conducted to ensure accountability. Yobe SEMA emphasized, “We remain committed to building trust, serving the people, and ensuring no one is left behind.”
The beneficiary list is accessible across all institutions and Local Emergency Management Committees for public verification.
