The Nigerian Navy has announced the commencement of its Basic Training School (BTS) Batch 38 recruitment exercise, which will run from October 2 to October 31, 2025. The exercise, according to the Navy, is open to qualified Nigerians who meet the outlined requirements.
In a statement, the Navy stressed that the application process is completely free and must be carried out online through the official recruitment portal, www.joinnigeriannavy.navy.mil.ng. It added that successful applicants will undergo basic military training before being formally enlisted into service as Ordinary Seamen.
According to the guidelines, only Nigerian citizens by birth are eligible to apply, and applicants must provide a valid National Identification Number (NIN). The Navy warned that candidates with criminal records or links to secret societies, cults, or fraternities will be disqualified.
The statement further outlined specific academic and age requirements. Candidates applying with O-level certificates must be between 18 and 22 years old as of December 31, 2025. “Those holding OND or NCE qualifications must fall within the 18 to 26 age bracket, while Chaplain/Imam Assistants and Drivers/Mechanics must be aged 18 to 28,” it said.
Applicants are also required to have at least five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings in WAEC, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB, with certificates not older than 2015. For professional categories such as Medical Assistants and Nurses, proof of registration with the relevant professional bodies is compulsory.
The Navy disclosed that candidates applying in technical trades such as tailoring, plumbing, carpentry, welding, and electrical work must provide valid Trade Test certificates alongside their academic qualifications. Similarly, sportsmen and sportswomen are expected to present evidence of achievements, including medals and certificates.
The statement also confirmed that the recruitment examination will take place on November 29, 2025, at centres across the country. “Applicants are expected to appear with their Attestation Forms, duly signed and bearing the passport photograph of the signer, as well as a valid form of identification such as a Driver’s License, International Passport, or National ID Card,” it stated.
The Navy further warned against multiple applications, stressing that such actions would lead to automatic disqualification. It urged interested candidates to direct all inquiries only through the official communication channels listed on the recruitment portal.
