His Excellency, Hon. (Dr) Mai Mala Buni CON, has approved the establishment of the Mai Mala Buni College of Integrated Science (MMB-CIS) in Damaturu.

According to the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Adam Idriss, Governor Buni has also approved the allocation of 100 hectares of land near the Bukar Abba Ibrahim Housing Estate along Potiskum Road for the construction of the institution. Prof. Idriss described the development as a landmark move, noting that the college is designed as an integrated and state-of-the-art facility that will stand as a legacy project for the administration.

The institution is envisioned as a pioneering model that will combine modern conventional education with Islamic values. Its curriculum will draw inspiration from educational systems in Malaysia and Indonesia, where Islamic and conventional education are integrated into a single framework. “This college will produce well-rounded graduates who are both religiously grounded and academically excellent,” Prof. Idriss explained.

The Mai Mala Buni College of Integrated Sciences is being established with specific objectives. These include offering both Islamic and conventional education, preserving Islamic heritage and moral values, delivering globally competitive academic programs, preparing students for national and international opportunities, and reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state.

Several unique features will distinguish the college from others. It will operate a unified curriculum for Islamic and conventional education, adopt bilingual instruction using English and Arabic, and embed Islamic ethos across all subjects. The institution will also provide special training programs for teachers to deliver the dual curricula effectively. Other features include modern facilities designed in line with Islamic values and a strong focus on producing graduates who are both memorizers of the Holy Qur’an and world-class professionals.

To ensure the successful establishment of the college, Governor Buni has approved the formation of a steering committee. The committee will be chaired by Assoc. Prof. Abba Idris Adam, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education. Members include Umaru Hassan Babayo, Chairman of YB-SUBEB; Dr. Bukar Aji Bukar, Permanent Secretary; Prof. Sheriff Muhammad Ibrahim, Professor of Islamic Finance; Prof. Adam Muhammad Mustapha, Director of CRQS at Yobe State University; Dr. Hadiza Bukar Mali of Yobe State University; Mallam Lawan Abba Shettima, Permanent Member of Hisbah; Umar Abubakar, Executive Secretary of AISEB; Hon. Maina Digma Gana, Chairman of Yobe House Committee on Basic Education; and Assoc. Prof. Abubakar Kagu, Executive Secretary of YBSSB, who will serve as the Secretary.

This initiative aligns with Governor Buni’s commitment to educational transformation in Yobe State. His administration has previously declared a state of emergency on education, invested heavily in infrastructure, and expanded scholarship programs. The establishment of the Mai Mala Buni College of Integrated Science is regarded as another milestone in efforts to enhance access to quality education and secure the future of young people in the state.
