National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) has been sending SMS to victims, claiming they have been selected for the 2025 vocational training programme. The fraudulent message reads: “Greetings!!! We’re thrilled to announce that you’ve been selected for the NAPEP 20-25 Vocational Training Program! You are required to log in to your profile to submit your Bank Information: Regards.”
At first, the scammer pretended to be the federal government cash transfer programme that pays money to vulnerable households. However, the Federal Government had already concluded the disbursement of N330bn cash transfers to vulnerable households for the first tranche.
Now, the NAPEP scam is presenting itself as a vocational training programme. The public should note that the only official vocational training programme by the Federal Government is the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Moreover, TVET has already completed its shortlist of trainees and trainers, with the training sessions already ongoing.
This fraudulent NAPEP operation has been sending the fake SMS urging victims to submit their bank details since July 2025, and the same script is still being used in September to defraud greedy and unsuspecting applicants.
Authorities have stressed that the public should avoid NAPEP and not submit any bank details as this programme is fake. The repeated SMS demanding bank details is only a tactic to make the scam appear genuine. Do not be greedy.
