Kano executive council approves N45.6bn for education, others

The Kano State Executive Council has approved the sum of ₦45,611,294,606.04 for the execution of major projects across the state. The decision was reached during the 32nd council meeting held on Friday, 3rd October 2025, corresponding to 10th Rabi’u Thani 1447 A.H, at the Council Chamber, Kwankwasiyya City, Kano. The meeting was presided over by the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the council said the approved funds will cover developmental projects, policy initiatives, and other matters of public interest. According to the report, a total of ₦7,776,085,821.75 was approved for the education sector, reflecting the state government’s ongoing commitment to reviving education at all levels.

The projects include the general rehabilitation of Government Technical College (GTC), Kano, at a cost of ₦1,463,147,266.88, and the general rehabilitation of Government Day Science College, Kano, valued at ₦905,415,355.69. Other approved works include the rehabilitation of physical structures at Government Secondary School (GSS) Rimi in Sumaila LGA, costing ₦397,665,367.01, and the general rehabilitation of the School for Arabic Studies (SAS), Kano Municipal, estimated at ₦349,565,821.93.

The council also approved ₦1,732,292,010.24 for the settlement of funds owed to boarding school feeding suppliers. Renovation of classrooms and the provision of furniture to basic schools across the 44 Local Government Areas under the Community Re-orientation Committees (CRC) will cost ₦1,892,000,000.00. The supply of chalk to basic and post-basic schools across the state will be executed at ₦131,500,000.00, while ₦158,452,480.00 was approved for the purchase of properties and land for the expansion of selected secondary schools within Kano metropolis.

Furthermore, ₦546,577,435.74 was allocated for general renovation works at Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Thomas Dambatta.

For the youth and sports development sector, the council approved ₦430,324,750.00. Out of this, ₦135,324,750.00 will be used for the installation of solar streetlights at Sani Abacha Stadium, while ₦295,000,000.00 was approved for the sponsorship of athletes, coaches, and officials to participate in the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

The council also granted approval for the general renovation of Local Education Authority (L.E.A.) offices across all 44 Local Government Areas of the state.
