The Gombe State Government has announced the official commencement of payments for long-overdue gratuities to state and local government retirees, in a move described as a remarkable show of compassion, accountability, and dedication to workers’ welfare.

According to an official invitation released by the Chairman, Committee for Payment of Gratuities, Muhammad Buba, FCNA, the flag-off ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the New Banquet Hall, Government House, Gombe, beginning at 10:30 AM. The event will be performed by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Dan Majen Gombe).

“The payment of gratuities marks a new phase in the state’s continuous effort to reward hard work and protect the rights of retirees,” the statement noted. Governor Inuwa Yahaya, widely recognized for his people-oriented governance, has repeatedly emphasized his administration’s dedication to improving the welfare of both active and retired civil servants.

His government has maintained a consistent record in the prompt payment of salaries and pensions, and now, with the inclusion of gratuities, further strengthens his stand on fairness, transparency, and the dignity of labour. This initiative also aims to address backlogs inherited from previous administrations, demonstrating what the government called “a deliberate effort to fulfill its social responsibility.”

The payment is expected to bring much-needed financial relief to thousands of retired workers and their dependents while boosting local economic activities across the state. Experts believe that this initiative could have a multiplier effect on household income, trade, and small business growth in Gombe.

The event will attract top government officials, labour leaders, representatives of retirees, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders, all gathering to witness what many describe as a milestone in the state’s public service reform agenda.

Governor Yahaya’s commitment, according to observers, reflects a leadership style anchored on compassion and accountability. By honoring those who dedicated their careers to the progress of Gombe State, his administration continues to strengthen public trust and set a strong example of responsible governance.
