Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has approved the release of ₦305,510,507.09 for the payment of allowances to 565 indigenous medical students studying within Nigeria and abroad.
The approval reflects Governor Radda’s strong commitment to human capital development and his administration’s continued investment in education and healthcare, which are two key pillars of his Building Your Future Agenda.
Confirming the development, the General Manager of the Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board (HSMB), Dr. Muhammad Nazir Shehu, explained that the payment covers both regular student allowances and special project support for final-year medical students.
According to Dr. Shehu, the gesture aims to ease the financial challenges faced by the students, enabling them to focus on their academic and clinical training without distractions. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with Governor Radda’s vision of producing competent, homegrown medical professionals who can transform healthcare delivery across Katsina State.
“This approval by His Excellency is more than a financial intervention. It is a deliberate investment in the future of healthcare in Katsina,” Dr. Shehu said. “We expect the beneficiaries to honour this trust by excelling in their studies and returning to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of our people.”
He noted that the Governor’s decision reflects a broader and long-term strategy to expand access to medical education, strengthen the local healthcare workforce, and ensure the sustainability of medical services throughout the state.
Since assuming office, Governor Radda has remained consistent in his commitment to improving the health sector. His administration has focused on enhancing healthcare infrastructure, expanding access to rural health services, and prioritizing the training and welfare of medical personnel and students.
This latest approval is part of several ongoing reforms aimed at building a resilient, efficient, and people-centred healthcare system in Katsina. The administration has undertaken initiatives such as the rehabilitation and upgrade of health facilities, the expansion of therapeutic nutrition centres, and the recruitment of skilled health professionals.
Through these reforms, the government seeks to strengthen healthcare delivery, promote quality medical education, and create opportunities for the youth to thrive.
The Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board expressed appreciation to Governor Radda for his continuous support and visionary leadership. The Board assured that the approved funds would be disbursed transparently and used strictly for the benefit of all eligible medical students.
