There is growing rumor that Nigeria Police Force recruitment is upcoming, with many asking when the police recruitment portal will open. From previous indications, the recruitment will begin soon, but there is no date yet. The upcoming recruitment is expected to employ 30,000 constables, and rumors have continued since mid 2025.
In late June 2025, Ahmad Abdulhamid Malam Madori, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs and representative of Jigawa North East, confirmed the Federal Government’s approval for the recruitment of 30,000 youth into the Nigeria Police Force. Nigeria Startup News gathered that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave approval for the commission to recruit every year into the NPF.
After a meeting held on August 14, 2025, in Abuja, the Police Service Commission said they now have a new recruitment portal to be used for all categories of police officers and said it was ready.
However, on August 25, 2025, the Chairman of the PSC, DIG Hashimu Argungu, complained that the Commission is grossly underfunded and does not have the money to efficiently carry out police recruitment.
The last official comment from the Nigeria Police came on September 1, 2025, when they warned Nigerians to disregard a recruitment notice circulating on social media. The Force said no recruitment exercise is ongoing. Officials said the recruitment will commence soon and will be advertised in national newspapers, where the police will reveal the new portal link.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has begun a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the Nigeria Police Act No. 2 of 2020 that will make it compulsory for women to take 15 percent in the upcoming police recruitment, meaning men will take 85 percent.
Interested applicants are advised to wait for official communication and avoid anyone claiming to be an NPF official or asking for money.
