The Federal Government has opened registration for the new Inspire e-Learning programme, described as a major step toward improving access to quality education across Nigeria. Inspire Live(s) Online Real-Time Classes is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education, an effort to expand learning through technology. According to the Ministry, Inspire e-learning is open to learners in both public and private schools across the country.
The programme is designed to address the shortage of qualified teachers and ensure continuous learning. Inspire Live(s) uses technology to deliver real-time and interactive lessons directly to students, and provides a library of over 18,000 resources in different formats, including videos, ebooks, and audio lessons. Lessons are grouped into clear learning topics, and every course follows the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) standards for curricula, goals, and skills.
The Basic Education category covers learners in Primary 1 to Primary 6 and JSS 1 to JSS 3. Secondary school learners from SS1 to SS3 also have access to well-organized resources. However, the Tertiary Education category is not available yet. Inspire currently streams daily online classes for Junior and Senior Secondary Schools. These classes include JSS 1, JSS 2, and SS 2, with live lessons running Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Subjects for Junior Secondary School include Basic Science, Mathematics, English Language, ICT, Agricultural Science, Basic Technology, Civic Education, French, Physical Education, Religious Studies, History, and Business Studies. For Senior Secondary School, the available subjects include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing or Catering Craft, Civic Education, and Automobile Mechanics. All classes are delivered by certified master teachers using Cisco Webex.
