250 Persons with Disabilities in Kaduna State have received N250,000 each to support their small businesses as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative Economic Empowerment Programme, launched during the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The support targets the recapitalisation of businesses owned by beneficiaries and reflects a wider national rollout.
Kaduna joined the nationwide event, which forms part of a programme benefiting 9,500 Persons with Disabilities across the 36 states, the FCT, and DEPOWA, with a total investment of N1.9 billion. The initiative was unveiled in Kaduna in recognition of inclusion, empowerment, and improved economic participation for vulnerable groups.
The First Lady of Kaduna State, Her Excellency Hafsat Uba Sani, was represented by the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology. She delivered the message of Her Excellency, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, who reaffirmed the country’s commitment to empowerment. The First Lady noted that the project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises inclusive growth.
In attendance were Hon. Yonana Markus Barde, Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs; Barr. Gloria Ibrahim, Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development; and Hon. Shamsudeen Abdullahi, Special Assistant to the Governor on Persons with Disabilities. Their presence signalled a united approach toward inclusive governance in the state.
The First Lady commended Kaduna State for supporting impactful social programmes. As announced by the RHI Governing Board, the empowerment scheme will now be observed every December 3rd as an annual event to continue strengthening opportunities for Persons with Disabilities.
