The National Poverty Reduction With Growth Strategy has received a total allocation of ₦250 billion in the current budget, reflecting the Federal Government’s continued commitment to expanding social protection and reducing poverty across Nigeria.

The budget provision includes ₦100 billion for recurrent expenditure, covering Federal Government commitments such as the upscaling of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), and ₦150 billion earmarked for capital projects, bringing the total allocation for the strategy to ₦250 billion.

NSIP, implemented through the (NSIPA), serves as one of the government’s primary tools for supporting vulnerable Nigerians through targeted interventions. The programme was introduced to address extreme poverty, unemployment and food insecurity, with a focus on improving livelihoods and strengthening social protection systems.

Over the years, NSIP has supported millions of Nigerians through initiatives such as youth skills development, conditional cash transfers to poor households, access to micro-credit for small traders, and school feeding programmes aimed at improving child nutrition and school attendance.

The recurrent allocation is expected to sustain ongoing programme operations, including beneficiary payments, administrative costs and programme expansion, while the capital allocation is intended to support infrastructure development, system upgrades and broader programme reach.

Officials say the funding under the National Poverty Reduction With Growth Strategy is designed to strengthen the delivery capacity of existing social interventions while supporting economic inclusion efforts that can help vulnerable households build resilience.

The allocation comes at a time when economic pressures have increased demand for social support, placing greater emphasis on effective programme coordination and transparent use of public funds.
