Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has met with the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), Ayo Sotinrin, ahead of the launch of the National Community Food Bank programme to finalise plans for its rollout.
The meeting took place in her office at the State House, Abuja, as obtained by Nigeria Startup News.
Speaking to State House Correspondents after the visit, Ayo Sotinrin said the various initiatives by the First Lady in the area of agriculture have been producing strong results. According to him, the programmes are not only improving food security across the country but are also supporting better maternal and child healthcare outcomes.
He noted that beyond addressing child malnutrition, the scheduled launch of the National Community Food Bank programme, recently announced by Nigeria’s First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will tackle the issue from its root. Sotinrin explained that the programme will promote bio-fortification of food right from the production stage, ensuring that more nutritious food reaches families.
The Managing Director of BOA said he met with the First Lady to work out final details for the rollout of the National Community Food Bank programme. He expressed optimism that the initiative would help raise healthier future generations of Nigerians.
Sotinrin also explained that Every Home A Garden, another initiative of the First Lady, is in focus for the bank. He said BOA plans to support the food security agenda of the federal government by creating a scheme for female civil servants, which they can access through the Every Home A Garden programme.
Recently, at the 2026 National Traditional and Religious Leaders Summit on Health, the First Lady flagged off an advocacy and awareness campaign for the National Community Food Bank program, designed to address child malnutrition in the country.
