The Kwara State Government has finalized plans to begin structured digital capacity training across Local Government Areas (LGAs) under the Federal Government’s Project 774 initiative. The move is part of efforts to deepen digital inclusion at the grassroots and strengthen the capacity of local councils through improved digital skills and systems.

The implementation planning meeting was held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the Ilorin Innovation Hub. It was led by Hon Ishola Kayode, Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Innovation. The meeting brought together key stakeholders to coordinate the rollout of digital infrastructure aimed at improving support for local governments through enhanced digital literacy and digitization.

After discussions with representatives from benefiting LGAs, including Ifelodun, Ilorin West, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, and Offa, it was agreed that the first phase of the programme would focus on training local government personnel. According to officials, this step will ensure that staff members are well-prepared to coordinate and support community-based digital training for residents in their respective areas.

Honourable Kayode said His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, has already made the necessary provisions to activate and utilize the digital facilities. He explained that the equipment, originally initiated in 2024 by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Hon. Bosun Tijani, must be properly protected.

“These systems are costly assets that must not be moved unnecessarily,” Kayode cautioned. He also urged LGAs to adopt official digital channels to promote faster and paperless communication.

Also speaking, the Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology, Mrs. Adeiran Motunrayo, advised LGA leadership to select only “serious-minded and committed individuals” for the programme to ensure long-term impact.

The meeting was attended by the Honourable Commissioner for MBIT, represented by Mrs. Adeiran Motunrayo (DPFS); Hon. Abdulrahman Ladan, Chairman of Ilorin West LGA; Hon. Garba Olayinka Lukman, Chairman of Ilorin East LGA; and representatives of the Chairmen for Ilorin South, Ifelodun, and Offa, alongside officials from the Office of the Special Assistant on Digital Innovation.
