The Nigeria Energy Support Programme (NESP), in partnership with the REEEA-Alliance, has officially launched its Technical Internship Programme aimed at equipping 50 young professionals with practical, hands-on experience across multiple energy-focused organisations in Nigeria.
The programme, which commenced with Cohort 1, will see the selected interns deployed across 21 host organisations in eight states. More than half of the beneficiaries are women, reflecting a deliberate effort to promote gender inclusion and strengthen diversity within Nigeria’s growing renewable energy and energy efficiency sector.
Announcing the kick-off, the partners described the initiative as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s energy future. According to the organisers, the internship is designed to provide real-world exposure in areas such as sector coordination, industry engagement, policy advocacy, and ecosystem development.
“This pioneer cohort of 50 young professionals reflects our commitment to building a technically sound and inclusive energy workforce,” the programme stated.
Under the arrangement, interns will work directly with industry players and institutions, gaining field experience that bridges the gap between academic knowledge and industry requirements. Two of the interns have also been deployed to the REEEEA-Alliance Secretariat, where they will support coordination and stakeholder engagement efforts within the renewable energy space.
The organisers expressed appreciation to the 21 host organisations serving as centres for practical learning and mentorship. They also acknowledged the support of key development partners, including the Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ, and the Federal Ministry of Power.
“Strategic partnerships like this are essential to accelerating a just, inclusive, and sustainable energy transition,” the statement added.
