Applications are now open for the Feeding the Next Billion Food Innovation Fellowship, a five-day residential training program designed to support young Nigerian innovators interested in food value addition and agribusiness.

The fellowship is organized by Farm Central Intelligence (FarmCI) with support from UNESCO and Nestlé through the “Because You Matter” program, alongside technical expertise from Soilless Farm Lab. The initiative focuses on tackling two pressing challenges in Nigeria — food waste and youth unemployment — by equipping young people with practical skills to transform agricultural produce into valuable market products.

During the intensive training, participants will learn how to convert raw farm produce, particularly vegetables, spices, and peppers, into processed and market-ready products. The program places strong emphasis on hands-on learning, enabling fellows to gain practical experience in food processing, preservation techniques, packaging, branding, and basic business management.

Beyond technical training, the fellowship also promotes entrepreneurship and sustainable practices aimed at reducing post-harvest losses. By building these skills, the program seeks to strengthen Nigeria’s food value chain while helping participants establish viable small businesses that contribute to local economic growth and food security.

The fellowship also aims to create an inclusive environment by encouraging applications from young people across Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states. Through this initiative, organizers hope to nurture a new generation of food entrepreneurs capable of building resilient food systems and creating employment opportunities within their communities.

Selected fellows will receive a comprehensive support package throughout the program. All expenses for the five-day residential training will be fully covered, including accommodation, meals, and training materials. Participants will also receive transportation support to and from the training venue located in Ogun State.

In addition, fellows will have access to expert trainers and mentors from FarmCI and Soilless Farm Lab, who will provide practical guidance and industry insights throughout the training. Each participant will also receive a personalized setup kit containing essential tools and materials needed to begin a food value addition business after completing the program.

Participants will also benefit from networking opportunities with fellow innovators, industry professionals, and program partners. Upon completion of the training, fellows will receive a certificate and gain access to continued mentorship and resources to support the growth of their businesses.

The fellowship is open to young people between the ages of 18 and 35 who are interested in reducing food waste and building sustainable food businesses. Female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

Successful applicants will be notified after the selection process.

The application deadline is March 10, 2026. Interested applicants can apply online at: https://forms.gle/2b7XdMAnqTUUPLk99
