Over 1,300 vulnerable rural women in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State have received food items and cash support from the CHAYAH Hope Foundation in a humanitarian outreach aimed at easing economic hardship among rural families.
The intervention, led by the foundation’s founder, Dr. Mrs. Martina Nentawe Yilwatda, focused on supporting widows, single mothers, elderly women, and other disadvantaged groups who often face the harshest impact of rising living costs in rural communities.
The empowerment programme took place at the Kanke Local Government headquarters and brought together beneficiaries from all wards of the council area to ensure fairness and broad coverage.
Organisers said the initiative reflects the foundation’s commitment to providing practical assistance to vulnerable populations while promoting dignity and hope among women who play critical roles in sustaining families and communities.
Speaking during the distribution, Dr. Mrs. Yilwatda emphasised that supporting grassroots women remains a key part of the foundation’s mission.
“Rural women remain the backbone of our communities. They deserve structured support to overcome economic hardships and thrive,” she said.
She explained that the CHAYAH Hope Foundation works across several areas including welfare support, education, healthcare, skills acquisition, counselling, advocacy, and economic empowerment programmes designed to improve the lives of disadvantaged people.
According to her, empowering women at the grassroots level strengthens families and contributes to more resilient local economies.
The distribution exercise was carried out in an orderly manner with volunteers coordinating registration and logistics, while security personnel ensured a peaceful process throughout the event.
Many beneficiaries described the assistance as timely relief amid the economic challenges affecting households across the country.
Hajiya Aisha Mustapha, a widow who received support, said the items and cash would help her care for her children.
“This food and money came at the right time. I feel remembered. May Almighty Allah bless President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, bless Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and bless Dr. Mrs. Martina for thinking of poor women like us,” she said emotionally.
Another beneficiary, Mrs. Naomi Yilgwan, said the programme renewed hope for many women living in rural communities.
“We sometimes feel forgotten in the villages, but today proves someone cares. This is more than food; it is love and encouragement,” she said.
Mrs. Cynthia Moses also shared her relief after receiving the support.
“I was worried about feeding my children this month. This has lifted a heavy burden. I pray God rewards those helping the poor,” she said.
Miss Deborah Nungyil, one of the younger beneficiaries, described the day as unforgettable.
“This is my first time receiving such help. It gives me hope for better days. I am grateful and will help others when I can.”
