The Edo State Government has opened discussions with the Concerned Entertainers of Edo State to explore partnerships aimed at empowering young people through entertainment, talent development, and opportunities within the creative industry.

The engagement followed a meeting between the Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Honourable Charity Amayaenvbo, and representatives of the entertainment group, where both sides examined ways to use creative platforms to support youth development across the state.

Amayaenvbo emphasised that entertainment can serve as a powerful tool to keep young people productively engaged while helping them discover and develop their talents.

“Keeping young people busy with entertainment, talent hunts and skill development will help prevent them from engaging in negative activities,” he said.

The commissioner also stressed that many young people in the state are technologically inclined and possess the creativity needed to build careers in the entertainment sector if given the right opportunities and support.

He called for innovative ideas and structured programmes that can help channel the energy of young people into productive ventures.

“We need clear plans and fresh ideas to engage our youths. Many of them are tech-savvy and have the potential to create value for themselves and the state,” Amayaenvbo added.

He further noted that the government cannot drive youth development efforts alone and encouraged established artists and industry stakeholders to contribute to mentoring and supporting emerging talents.

According to him, including younger artists in government-backed programmes will provide motivation and exposure for many aspiring entertainers.

President of the Concerned Entertainers of Edo State, Mr Melvyn Temitayo Akpata, said the organisation focuses on promoting creativity and encouraging positive youth engagement through entertainment.

He explained that the Edo Industry Night initiative was created to give young artists a platform where experienced entertainers can mentor and support them.

“Our goal is to promote talent, create opportunities for young people and showcase Edo culture,” Akpata said.
