The Katsina State Government has opened applications for the 2026 Climate Change Competition for students in basic and post-basic schools across the state, encouraging young people to take part in climate action through creative video presentations.
The competition is being organised by the Katsina State Climate Change Secretariat under the Governor Dikko Umaru Radda Green Prize Initiative. The programme is designed to promote climate awareness, environmental responsibility, and youth participation in climate action as the state pushes toward building a more climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable Katsina.
According to the organisers, the competition is open to students in Basic Schools, which include Primary and Junior Secondary levels, as well as Post-Basic Schools, covering Senior Secondary students across the state.
Participants are required to create short video presentations based on selected climate quotations drawn from speeches of the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda. The videos are expected to demonstrate students’ understanding of climate change issues, including adaptation, mitigation, and environmental stewardship.
For the Basic School category, entries should be a video presentation of about three minutes. Students in the Post-Basic School category are expected to submit videos that do not exceed five minutes.
Entries will be assessed by a panel of experts, who will review submissions based on creativity, clarity of message, and understanding of climate-related concepts. The most impactful entries will receive the Governor Dikko Umaru Radda Green Prize, which includes cash prizes, certificates of recognition, and other incentives.
The submission deadline for the competition is 10 April 2026. Interested students are required to upload their video to YouTube and submit the video URL alongside other required details through the official application portal at govdikkogreencompetition.com.
