The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has launched the ‘Cyber for Women’ initiative, a targeted cybersecurity training programme designed to equip Nigerian women with in-demand digital security skills and boost their participation in the country’s technology workforce.

The initiative, introduced in collaboration with Women in Cybersecurity, focuses on building practical capacity and opening pathways for women to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital economy. It reflects NITDA’s effort to ensure that more women are actively involved in securing Nigeria’s digital space.

Speaking at the launch, NITDA’s Director of Cybersecurity, Mohammed Ahmed, represented by Ayodele Bakare, said the programme is intentional about placing women at the centre of the nation’s digital transformation.

“Today is a declaration that the women of Nigeria are not bystanders in the digital revolution; they are its architects,” Ahmed stated.

He explained that as technology continues to shape economies and societies, cybersecurity has become a critical pillar that cannot be overlooked. According to him, empowering women with the right skills is essential to building a resilient and inclusive digital ecosystem.

The programme also addresses the existing gender gap in cybersecurity, where women remain under-represented despite growing global demand for skilled professionals. Participants are expected to gain hands-on knowledge, access to tools, and opportunities for collaboration within the industry.

“Our objective is clear: to empower Nigerian women in cybersecurity with knowledge, tools and collaboration opportunities,” Ahmed added, noting that the training prepares them for emerging threats and evolving digital challenges.
