Gombe State has received $27.51 million under the World Bank-supported NG-CARES (Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus) programme, reaching more than 930,000 beneficiaries across the state.

Commissioner for Water, Environment and Forest Resources, Alhaji Mohammed Sa’idu Fawu, disclosed this while opening a four-day training for enumerators on third-party assessment in Gombe. He said the funding has significantly supported livelihoods, improved access to basic services, and strengthened community resilience.

“This intervention has made a measurable impact on our people, especially at the grassroots, where support is most needed,” Fawu said. “We remain committed to sustaining collaboration with the World Bank to deepen development outcomes.”

The training, held at Matrix International Academy, is aimed at reviewing progress, identifying gaps, and ensuring credible reporting of programme performance.

ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, noted that the exercise would help align implementation with set objectives. “The assessment will give us a clearer picture of what has been achieved and what needs improvement,” he said.

Officials also linked the state’s performance to strong political backing. “The support from Governor Inuwa Yahaya has been instrumental in driving these results,” Jauro added.

Representatives of the World Bank and national project office urged participants to maintain professionalism, stressing that accurate data would shape future funding decisions.
