Yiaga Africa is inviting qualified and committed individuals to apply for the role of State Focal Person (SFP) under its #WatchingTheVote (WTV) project. This initiative represents one of Nigeria’s most extensive citizen-led election observation efforts, focused on improving electoral transparency, strengthening public confidence, and promoting credible democratic processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
The State Focal Person serves as Yiaga Africa’s principal representative within a state, playing a strategic role in coordinating observation activities and ensuring effective engagement with stakeholders. This position is designed for individuals who understand civic responsibility and are prepared to lead structured election monitoring efforts at the grassroots level.
Core Responsibilities
The role involves multiple layers of coordination and leadership:
- Recruit and manage LGA Supervisors and Polling Unit (PU) Observers within assigned locations
- Ensure observers reside within their areas of assignment and actively participate in pre-election and election day activities
- Facilitate observer accreditation through INEC by submitting required documentation
- Oversee election day observation processes and ensure timely submission of reports
Training and Capacity Building
Selected candidates will support the delivery of training programmes by:
- Assisting the Training Manager and Programme Officer in organising observer trainings
- Coordinating election day workshops alongside WTV trainers
- Supporting logistical arrangements for all training sessions
Reporting and Stakeholder Engagement
Effective communication is central to the role:
- Maintain regular reporting to the WTV Zonal Programme Officer and Management Team
- Document lessons, insights, and best practices from field activities
- Represent Yiaga Africa in engagements with INEC, civil society, media, and security agencies
Logistics and Administration
The State Focal Person will also:
- Manage funds and materials in line with organisational procedures
- Coordinate logistics for workshops and stakeholder meetings
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Law, Political Science, or related fields
- Demonstrated experience in civic engagement, election observation, or project management
- Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
- Non-partisan and apolitical disposition
- Resident in the state of application
