The United States government has opened applications for the White House Internship Programme, inviting young people across the country to apply for the Fall 2026 session.
The programme, described as a public service leadership initiative, offers participants the opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the Executive Office while developing leadership and professional skills.
According to details released on the official portal, the internship is designed to make the White House, often referred to as the “People’s House”, more accessible to future leaders. It also aims to strengthen participants’ understanding of how the executive arm of government operates.
The internship will run as a full-time, in-person programme in Washington, D.C., lasting between 10 and 12 weeks. Selected candidates will work across Presidential and Vice-Presidential offices, contributing to daily operations and policy-related activities.
Interns are expected to perform a wide range of tasks depending on their assigned departments. These include conducting research, managing correspondence, drafting memos, attending meetings, and supporting official events.
In addition to daily assignments, participants will take part in structured weekly activities such as leadership development sessions, a speaker series featuring senior officials, and professional training opportunities.
The programme also places strong emphasis on community engagement. Interns will be given the opportunity to participate in volunteer projects, reflecting the administration’s focus on service and civic responsibility.
A statement on the programme noted that the President, the First Lady, and White House staff remain committed to mentoring young leaders and equipping them with the skills required for future roles in public service.
Eligibility requirements indicate that applicants must be United States citizens, at least 18 years old, and able to commit to full-time, in-person participation for the duration of the programme. Candidates must also pass a background check and meet at least one academic condition, including being a current student, a recent graduate, or a military veteran.
The Fall 2026 session will focus on leadership development and community impact, while also drawing on the historical significance of the White House as a training ground for future leaders.
