The Federal Government is expected to open the registration portal for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme in April 2026, although no official date has been confirmed amid circulating claims that applications will begin on April 8.

Findings show that while several online sources and social media posts have suggested April 8 opening date, the Federal Ministry of Education has yet to issue any formal announcement confirming when the portal will go live. However, it is confirmed that the new batch registration begins in April.

The development comes as the government prepares to roll out an upgraded TVET curriculum for the April 2026 training cohort, aimed at equipping young Nigerians with industry-relevant skills, particularly in the creative and tourism sectors.

TVET programme is a flagship initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education, designed to tackle unemployment by providing practical training that supports both job creation and entrepreneurship.

Under the scheme, successful applicants will benefit from free tuition, with fees paid for directly by the Federal Government through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). Trainees are also expected to receive a monthly stipend of N22,500 to support their basic needs during the training period.

In addition, beneficiaries will be given starter packs after graduation to help them begin their careers, alongside access to business loans to scale their ventures.

The planned curriculum upgrade, developed in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, is expected to align training with real job opportunities across high-growth sectors.

The FME had earlier disclosed that the initiative could unlock about 4.08 million jobs, including opportunities in creative media, fashion, leather works, hospitality, and tourism.

Despite the growing interest in the programme, officials advised prospective applicants to rely only on verified government channels for updates on the registration process and to disregard unconfirmed claims about specific opening dates.

As of the time of this report, the ministry has maintained silence on the exact date for the portal launch, but confirmed that registration will commence in April.
