The Oyo State Government has announced a 50 per cent land tractorisation subsidy for verified farmers as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and food security across the state.

The initiative, which is being implemented through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, is designed to reduce the cost burden on farmers while encouraging large-scale cultivation ahead of the 2026 farming season.

According to information made available by the ministry, the subsidy covers ploughing operations, with the market rate fixed at ₦35,000 per acre. Under the arrangement, farmers will pay ₦17,500, while the state government will cover the remaining ₦17,500.

The government stated that only verified farmers would benefit from the scheme, stressing the need for proper registration and compliance with outlined procedures.

To participate, farmers are required to first contact designated Extension Officers or booking agents who serve as representatives of the ministry. These officials are responsible for coordinating the process and guiding applicants through each stage.

Following initial contact, a farm visit will be conducted by the extension officer to assess and map the farmland. During the visit, details such as land size and intended crop type will be documented to ensure accurate planning and deployment.

After the verification process, eligible farmers are expected to pay their 50 per cent contribution into the official bank account provided by the ministry. Authorities emphasised that payment should only be made after farm inspection and proper documentation to avoid irregularities.

Upon confirmation of payment, the ministry will deploy tractors to the approved farms for ploughing operations.

The government also advised farmers to rely only on authorised personnel and official communication channels throughout the process, noting that farm visitation and land mapping must be completed before any payment is made.

Officials said the programme forms part of broader measures to support farmers, improve mechanised farming, and enhance food production across Oyo State.
