The Niger Delta Development Commission has warned Nigerian youths to disregard a fraudulent message circulating on social media, claiming that the agency is offering a N50,000 monthly stipend under its Youth Internship Scheme.

The commission said the message, which urges “all Nigerian youths” to submit their bank account details, is the handiwork of scammers attempting to defraud unsuspecting individuals.

According to the NDDC, the criminals are exploiting the commission’s various youth empowerment initiatives to lure victims into a non-existent scheme.

The agency clarified that beneficiaries of its Youth Internship Scheme have already been carefully selected from its official database, noting that many Niger Delta youths duly registered and have legitimately benefited from the programme.

It stressed that it does not request sensitive personal or financial information through unofficial channels.

The commission advised members of the public, particularly youths seeking legitimate means of livelihood, to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to such deceptive tactics.

It also urged prospective applicants and beneficiaries to rely solely on verified information from its official communication platforms.

The NDDC described the activities of the fraudsters as disturbing, noting that they are taking advantage of young people who are genuinely eager to engage in productive ventures.

The agency further directed that all enquiries regarding its Youth Internship Scheme and other empowerment programmes should be made through its official channels, including its website and verified social media handles.
