The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) has announced a call for educators and trainers to participate in the 2026 Build-A-Thon programme, an initiative designed to equip young Nigerians with practical technology skills in coding, embedded systems, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The programme, scheduled to run from April 20 to April 24, 2026, will take place across six states and locations: Enugu, Lagos, Ogun, Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), Delta, and Kano.

The Build-A-Thon is aimed at children between the ages of 10 and 18, introducing them to innovation-driven learning through hands-on technology experiences. Selected trainers will play a central role in mentoring participants and guiding them through practical workshops that combine coding, hardware experimentation, and maker-based learning.

About the Build-A-Thon Programme

Build-A-Thon is one of FMCIDE’s strategic digital literacy initiatives focused on preparing the next generation of Nigerian innovators. The programme provides young learners with access to technology labs, do-it-yourself kits, and structured workshops designed to strengthen both technical and problem-solving abilities.

According to the ministry, the initiative is intended to deepen digital literacy nationwide while creating early exposure to emerging technologies for Nigerian students. By combining classroom-style instruction with practical experimentation, the programme seeks to build foundational knowledge that can inspire future careers in science, engineering, and technology.
