The Nigerian Navy has introduced an online raffle programme offering members of the public an opportunity to sail aboard one of its warships as part of activities commemorating its 70th anniversary.
The initiative, announced on Wednesday, is one of the flagship public engagement events lined up to mark the Navy’s milestone celebration and is aimed at giving civilians a rare first-hand experience of life at sea aboard a naval vessel.
According to the Director of Information, Nigerian Navy, Commodore Abi Folorunsho, the raffle exercise will begin with a two-week registration window during which interested Nigerians and other eligible participants can submit their entries online.
How the raffle will work
In a statement shared via X, Folorunsho explained that applicants are required to complete an online registration form, after which all submissions will be collated and assigned unique codes for a random draw.
He said the eventual selection of winners would be based on these generated codes.
“Good evening, ladies & gentlemen, I promised to post the link for a chance to sail on a Nigerian Navy warship. The day is here, and the link is below.
“The initial stage will last for two weeks, during which interested individuals can complete the online forms. Afterwards, the generated codes will be announced. Once all entries are collated, I will randomly select people to pick a code or codes,” he stated.
Number of winners subject to safety limits
The Navy noted that the total number of successful participants will depend strictly on onboard safety capacity.
Folorunsho stressed that each winning slot will be tied to a specific entrant and cannot be transferred to another person.
“The total number of winners will depend on how many people can safely join the ship without compromising safety. Please note that you cannot transfer your slot, as each person must be linked to a specific code from the start,” he added.
Privacy concerns and participation details
Responding to concerns raised by some members of the public regarding data privacy, Folorunsho said the registration portal includes a privacy policy explaining how participant information will be handled.
He also clarified that participation is open to all eligible persons, although attendees must make their own transport arrangements to Lagos, where the sailing will commence.

The registration form, titled NIGERIAN NAVY @70 ANNIVERSARY, requires entrants to provide basic details including full name, email address, phone number, country, and age group.
