Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding employment opportunities for young people, signalling renewed efforts to address youth unemployment through targeted economic reforms.
The governor made this known in a message delivered at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members deployed to the state under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), held at the orientation camp in Asaya. Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe, through the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Momoh Steven Azzez, Ododo said the government would “work tirelessly to create job opportunities for unemployed youths by revitalising key sectors of the state economy.”
He added that the administration would provide the necessary policy and institutional support required to drive youth development, positioning young people as central contributors to economic growth. According to him, the strategy would focus on strengthening sectors with high employment potential while ensuring that youths are equipped to take advantage of emerging opportunities.
Addressing the newly inducted corps members, the governor urged them to take full advantage of the NYSC programme and avoid distractions that could hinder their progress. He encouraged them to build on the achievements of previous batches and contribute meaningfully to their host communities.
Ododo also reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving the NYSC scheme in Kogi, particularly through the upgrade of the orientation camp to meet modern standards nationwide. He assured corps members of their safety throughout their service year and called on them to respect camp rules and officials.
He commended the NYSC management for sustaining a hitch-free orientation exercise and congratulated the state coordinator, Mrs. Chris-Moneke Chika Tochi, assuring her of continued government support.
In her remarks, the coordinator cautioned corps members to adhere strictly to camp regulations, stressing discipline as key to a successful service year.
