The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is set to launch a Sustainable Empowerment Programme in Kano State aimed at expanding access to clean and reliable energy solutions for households, particularly in rural and semi-urban communities.

According to details released in NASENI Watch (Daily News Bulletin, Vol. 3, No. 30) dated April 27, 2026, the programme will officially commence on April 28, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. The initiative is designed to deliver clean cookstoves, solar home systems, and other renewable energy solutions to residents across the state.

NASENI said the intervention is part of its broader strategy to reduce dependence on traditional firewood and other inefficient energy sources, while promoting environmental sustainability and improving living conditions.

“The programme is designed to reduce dependence on traditional firewood, promote environmental sustainability, and stimulate local economic activities through the adoption of renewable energy technologies,” the agency stated.

Beyond energy access, NASENI noted that the initiative will also focus on awareness creation, educating beneficiaries on the benefits of clean energy technologies and how they can be leveraged to improve productivity and livelihoods.

“As part of NASENI’s commitment to delivering homegrown solutions, the initiative will also create awareness on the benefits of clean energy, while empowering beneficiaries with technologies that improve livelihoods and productivity,” the statement added.

The agency further linked the programme to its core mandate, emphasising its focus on Creation, Collaboration, and Commercialisation of locally developed technologies.

“This intervention reflects NASENI’s focus on Creation, Collaboration, and Commercialisation, and its broader mandate to deploy science and engineering solutions in direct service of the Nigerian people,” it stated.

The Kano rollout is expected to serve as a model for similar clean energy empowerment programmes across other states, as the agency continues to deepen its push for sustainable and inclusive technological development.
