The Coastland Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies (CIES) has unveiled plans to train at least 1,000 Nigerian graduates across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in a nationwide skills development initiative aimed at boosting employment and reducing youth vulnerability.
The institute disclosed that selected beneficiaries will receive hands-on training in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), hairdressing, barbing, shoe making, fashion designing, and other vocational and entrepreneurial skills considered critical for self-reliance in Nigeria’s current economic climate.
Speaking in Uyo during a joint press conference held at the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, Edidem Sylvanus Effiong Okon, the President General of CIES, Elder Fred Obot, stated that participants would not only acquire practical skills but would also be awarded certificates and provided with start-up capital upon completion.
According to him, “The institution in addition to the training in skill acquisition will also help to create employment opportunities for Nigerian youths, eliminating the present high level of crimes and insecurity in Nigeria. It will also issue certificate and provide startup capital to its graduates. We intend to train 1,000 graduates per state per year.”
Obot added that the initiative is structured to address unemployment while contributing to economic growth, noting that empowering young people with practical skills remains one of the most sustainable approaches to tackling poverty.
He appealed to Governor Umo Eno and other stakeholders to support the programme, stressing that collaborative backing would expand its reach and impact.
In his remarks, Edidem Sylvanus Effiong Okon commended the initiative, describing it as timely and necessary. He noted that engaging youths productively would help curb rising crime rates and promote social stability across communities.
