The Nigerian Navy has said it will use an AI-powered digital raffle system to select winners for its NN@70 anniversary programme, introducing what it describes as a secure, transparent and fully automated process.
In a post on X on Thursday, Navy Captain Abi Folorunsho disclosed that the approach was adopted after concerns were raised about the transparency of traditional selection methods. According to him, the Navy considered multiple options, including a celebrity-led draw, before settling on a system built on artificial intelligence to eliminate human interference.
“We turned to AI and developed a digital raffle system to ensure a fair, transparent, and unbiased selection—completely free of human interference through a secure, automated method,” he said.
Details released alongside the announcement show that the process begins with registration enhancements carried out between April 15 and April 21, including data capture for children and location tagging. Entries are then organised using a stratified selection model across four locations—Warri, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Calabar—to ensure proportional representation of winners.
The selection itself is executed through a custom randomisation script within an automated workflow, removing manual draws entirely. The system integrates participant data and runs on a secure execution framework designed to prevent tampering.
Folorunsho explained that the process is structured in three stages: data processing, automated draw and verification with reporting. “Every entry is carefully checked and organized to ensure accuracy,” he noted, adding that winners will be selected using a computer-based random system across locations, followed by detailed reporting to guarantee accountability.
The final stage includes a report and audit trail, which the Navy says will provide full transparency and ensure the credibility of the outcome.
“The raffle deadline is midnight today—after that, registration closes and no more entries will be accepted,” Folorunsho added, confirming that the final list of winners will be published after the process is completed.
