Plateau Govt launches outsourcing programme to create 50,000 jobs

The Plateau State Government has launched a new outsourcing programme aimed at creating up to 50,000 jobs, following a strategic partnership with Outsource Global to position the state as a major hub in Nigeria’s growing outsourcing industry.

The initiative was formalised on Monday at the Old Government House in Rayfield, Jos, where Governor Caleb Mutfwang received a delegation from the company. The engagement forms part of the state’s broader push to drive job creation and improve digital inclusion by aligning workforce development with long-term economic priorities.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Outsource Global, Amal Hassan, said Nigeria is increasingly recognised as a competitive destination for outsourced services, with proven capacity to deliver professional solutions across sectors such as legal services, accounting, and software engineering to global clients.

She noted that the company’s decision to expand operations to Jos followed extensive research which confirmed that Plateau State has the right conditions to support large-scale outsourcing. According to her, early signs show strong traction, with about 6,000 applications received within the first week of recruitment.

“We have commenced large-scale interviews and will continue the process,” Hassan said, describing the programme as a scalable pathway for employment and international service delivery.

Also speaking, Chief Executive Officer of Bluetag and Director at Outsource Global, Uzochukwu Eziukwu, emphasised that workforce development remains critical to attracting both local and foreign investment.

He explained that the programme is designed not only as an employment channel but also as a structured system for developing human capital across key sectors. “The platform identifies talent, aligns individuals with their skill sets, and guides them toward suitable career pathways and industry verticals,” he said.

Eziukwu added that the initiative is expected to scale up to 50,000 participants over time. Of this number, at least 2,000 individuals are projected to secure international placements, while a larger share will be absorbed into domestic outsourcing roles.

He further disclosed that a six-month internship model has been built into the programme as a “funnel system” to improve employability and ensure sustained engagement, with a target of retaining at least 50 per cent of participants in active roles.

Governor Mutfwang described the initiative as a deliberate response to unemployment challenges, stressing that practical skills will be prioritised over formal academic certificates.

“It is about skills. A certificate alone does not confer competence; we must prioritise practical capabilities,” he said. He added that the programme is inclusive and designed to accommodate different demographics, including individuals who can work remotely. “Even a housewife can participate from home, earn income, and contribute meaningfully to the economy,” the governor noted.

He also revealed that the state has secured collaboration with MTN Nigeria to utilise its Bukuru facility for the take-off phase. The facility is expected to support up to 1,600 workers across multiple shifts.

Beyond direct employment, the government expects the programme to stimulate wider economic activities across housing, services, and digital value chains, as it works towards achieving its 50,000 job creation target.
