Kano State has launched a new agric hub aimed at creating more farming and agribusiness opportunities for women across the state.

The Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) inaugurated the Women in Agriculture Centre in Kano on Monday as part of efforts to increase female participation in agriculture and improve economic empowerment for women.
Speaking during the inauguration, the State Project Coordinator, Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, said the centre was created to give women better access to agricultural opportunities, training, and resources needed to participate actively in farming and agribusiness.
He said the facility would help strengthen women’s contribution to food production, improve family livelihoods, and support sustainable agricultural development in Kano State.
Muhammad said KSADP had already recorded progress in improving nutrition and food security through several community support programmes, especially in rural communities.
According to him, the project, in partnership with the Kano State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA), would organise specialised training for women in food processing, preparation, and value addition.
He said the programme was expected to improve nutrition outcomes while also creating economic opportunities for women involved in agriculture.
The coordinator also disclosed that KSADP had established three Agricultural Mechanisation Service Centers in Danbatta, Gaya, and Kadawa.
He said the centres had attracted recognition from the Federal Government and were now being considered as a model that could be replicated in other parts of the country.
Muhammad further highlighted the establishment of Kano State’s first Veterinary Diagnostic and Research Center at Gwale Veterinary Hospital.
According to him, the centre is already working with institutions including Ahmadu Bello University, Bayero University Kano, and Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital to advance research and innovation in agriculture and animal health.
Managing Director of KNARDA, Dr. Faruk Ahmad Kurawa, said the new centre would support ongoing efforts to increase agricultural productivity in the state. He added that the agency recently recruited more than 1,000 personnel to improve service delivery.
Coordinator of women in agriculture, Hauwa Muhammad Adam, praised KSADP for creating opportunities that would allow women to play a bigger role in agriculture and food security in Kano State.
