The Association of Business Women for Asiwaju has thrown its support behind the Federal Government’s Power of 10 Million Women initiative, describing it as a major step towards strengthening women empowerment, inclusion, and political participation across Nigeria.

The group made this known during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, in Abuja following the maiden edition of the Power of 10 Million Mega Empowerment and Rally.

Leading the delegation, Princess Omotola Omole, National Coordinator of the Association of Nigerian Business Women Network and President of the ECOWAS Federation of Business Women Entrepreneurs Nigeria, said the visit was aimed at appreciating the Minister for what she described as a successful mobilisation of women from different parts of the country.

According to her, the initiative has already started creating a platform capable of giving Nigerian women stronger representation and a united voice.

“We came here today on a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister to thank her for the programme we just attended, the 10 Million Women movement. It was a beautiful one, it was successful. We have all our women here and other women were represented from different states,” she said.

Princess Omole stated that the association is ready to collaborate with the Ministry to expand the initiative beyond Abuja and ensure women at grassroots level also benefit from the movement.

She explained that the group plans to support women empowerment programmes from the zonal level down to states, local governments, and wards, with the aim of improving participation of women in national development and decision-making.

“We thought that we should not just end it on the field, we need to come so that we can work together to see how we can put women in places. We are here for the future of 10 million women, how we can take it to empower our women from each zone to states to ward level so that every Nigerian woman will be empowered, so that we will have a voice in this country,” she stated.

Responding, the Minister, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, thanked the association and other women groups for supporting the initiative and participating in the rally.

She described the coming together of women under one platform as a powerful movement capable of transforming lives and changing the future for many Nigerian women.

“There is something about powerful women coming together, magic happens, dreams come true, lives will change. I look forward to us doing a lot together and to the things we make happen. Your participation was critical,” the Minister said.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim noted that despite the sacrifices women continue to make in Nigeria, there is still a major gap in representation and inclusion, especially in leadership and governance.

According to her, the Power of 10 Million Women initiative was created after consultations with stakeholders who believed Nigerian women needed a stronger and more organised platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

She revealed that the movement was built within a short period and largely driven by vision and commitment rather than funding.

“If you look at the Power of 10 Million Women, it was delivered in less than 10 days, with no money, only a vision. We looked, the election is happening, we are being cut out of the whole thing as women, let us do something that will shake the whole system, that will be able to make stakeholders know that without the women 2027 will not happen,” she said.

The Minister added that women in countries like Rwanda and Kenya achieved stronger political representation because they worked together with a shared purpose.

“If you go to Rwanda, Kenya, where they have 50 to 70 per cent of parliament, it is because the women came together, to dream together, to plan together, to work together,” she stated.

She further described the movement as a call for unity among Nigerian women, stressing that the initiative is designed to create one strong voice against exclusion, abuse, and inequality.

“The Power of 10 Million is simply ten million votes from the women. In Nigeria, women are going through a lot, but we do not have a movement, we do not have just one voice to project us. We need to all come together, to protect ourselves,” she emphasised.

The growing support from business women groups and other stakeholders highlights increasing interest in the Federal Government’s push to improve women empowerment, economic inclusion, and participation in governance through the Power of 10 Million Women initiative.
