The Federal Government has postponed the commencement of Cohort 2 training under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme to the first week of June 2026, according to updates shared with trainees and training centres.
The second batch (batch B) of trainees was earlier expected to resume on May 18, but several centres have now informed applicants that the programme will begin around June 1 or June 2, although exact dates are yet to be officially communicated, Nigeria Startup News (NSN) reports.
Messages sent to some trainees by their centres confirmed the shift, with centres noting that not all training locations had been formally notified at the same time.
The latest update also revealed that the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) TVET programme is still accepting applications while preparations continue for the next phase of training.
As part of the new directives, centres were warned not to mark applicants as registered if they have not physically resumed for biometrics and training activities.
The update stated that applicants already marked as registered but not enrolled through biometrics may be removed from the system next week.
“Anyone marked as registered BUT yet to be enrolled on the Biometrics will be wiped off next week,” the notice said.
Training centres were also directed to upload adequate Quality Assurance Assessors (QAA) and Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) reports ahead of final assessments.
According to the update, centres are not expected to pay any money to awarding bodies for final assessments, and any centre that has already made payments was advised to request a refund.
The ministry also disclosed that minimum training days for each trade will soon be published as guidance for centres, based on the Guided Learning Hours attached to each trade area.
Training manuals are expected to follow the National Occupational Standards (NOS), which centres can download from their dashboard or through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) website.
The government further stated that starter packs for Cohort 1 trainees will be distributed alongside graduation activities, while Cohort 2 beneficiaries are expected to receive theirs either at the commencement of training or midway into the programme.
The update added that awarding bodies will review submitted QAA and IQA reports before visiting training centres for assessment activities.
The FME TVET programme also confirmed that information on trades expected to last six months and 12 months has already been published, and more information for each training session will also be released.
Centres seeking approval for increased student capacity or additional trades were directed to submit applications through the TVET portal.
