The Federal Government has announced plans to introduce capital grant initiatives for students with innovative ideas and entrepreneurial skills, as part of efforts to expand support beyond the current student loan scheme.
Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, disclosed this during the 70th anniversary celebration of Kaduna Polytechnic.
According to the Minister, the proposed initiative is designed to provide financial support for students with viable business ideas and innovations, helping them transform their concepts into sustainable ventures that can contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.
She said the move aligns with the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen youth empowerment through education, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
“In addition to the ongoing student loan scheme, government is also working on capital grant initiatives that will support students with creative and innovative ideas,” Dr. Suwaiba said.
She explained that the grants would help young Nigerians develop practical solutions, build businesses, and become more self-reliant after graduation.
The Minister also praised Kaduna Polytechnic for its contributions to technical and vocational education over the past seven decades, describing the institution as one of the key drivers of human capital development in the country.
She urged students across the country to take advantage of government-backed programmes aimed at improving learning, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
The announcement comes at a time when the Federal Government is increasing focus on policies targeted at youth development, skills acquisition, and access to education financing.
