Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to launch the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP), an intervention scheme expected to provide monthly cash support to between 50,000 and 100,000 residents across the state within the next one year.

Abiodun disclosed this on Friday during the opening of the first session of the 15th Synod of the Remo Anglican Diocese held at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church.

The synod, themed “The Empty Tomb: An Authentic Proof of the Living Saviour, Jesus Christ,” brought together church leaders, government officials, and members of the Anglican Communion.

Speaking at the event, the governor said the RHWDP forms part of his administration’s broader efforts to create economic opportunities and provide support for residents at the grassroots level.

“Our administration remains committed to creating renewed opportunities for the economy, institutions, and the people of Ogun State,” he said.

Abiodun explained that the initiative would deliver direct monthly interventions to thousands of residents across wards in the state, adding that the programme aligns with efforts to improve living conditions and strengthen community welfare.

The governor also announced that the state government would prioritise the reconstruction of the Sagamu–Ode Lemo Road, noting that infrastructure development remains important to economic growth and easier movement within the state.

He stressed the importance of collaboration between government and religious institutions, describing the Church as a key partner in promoting peace, justice, and responsible leadership.

According to him, the Church has continued to play a major role in spiritual development, community support, and nation-building, especially at a time when the country requires strong moral leadership.

“The Church has stood as a moral voice in society, defending justice, caring for the vulnerable, and encouraging leaders to govern with fairness and integrity,” Abiodun stated.

The governor further commended the Anglican Church for its contributions to education, healthcare, youth development, family values, and community welfare, saying its teachings continue to promote accountability, honesty, compassion, and peaceful coexistence.

Ahead of the election season, Abiodun called on religious leaders to encourage voter participation and responsible citizenship among members.

“As the election season approaches, the Church must continue to stand for truth, peace, and responsible citizenship. The clergy should encourage members to actively participate in the democratic process by registering to vote and exercising their constitutional rights,” he said.

The governor also said Ogun State has witnessed a reduction in political tension compared to previous years, adding that the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in the state have remained peaceful and transparent.

“When I reflect on what happened during my own primaries seven years ago and compare it with what is happening today, it is like night and day,” he said.

In his sermon, the Bishop of the Remo Diocese and Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, Olusina Fape, praised the Abiodun administration for implementing projects across Ogun State through the ISEYA development agenda.

Fape described the recently inaugurated Gateway International Airport as a major infrastructure project capable of boosting commerce, trade, and transportation within the state.
