The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and the Katsina State Government are strengthening collaboration on youth jobs and skills training as part of efforts to reduce unemployment and expand access to practical vocational programmes across the state.
This followed a courtesy visit by an NDE delegation led by Acting Director-General, Mr. Edmund C. Onwuliri, to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda at the Government House in Katsina.
During the meeting, Onwuliri commended the Katsina State Government for placing priority on youth empowerment and skills development, noting that the agency was ready to deepen its partnership with the state to create more employment opportunities for young people.
According to him, the visit was aimed at aligning NDE programmes with the development priorities of the Radda administration to ensure more youths gain market-relevant skills that can support self-reliance and job creation.
“We are here to build a stronger partnership with the Katsina State Government. Our goal is to ensure that more young people in the state gain access to practical skills training that translates directly into jobs and self-reliance,” Onwuliri said.
The NDE also disclosed plans to expand its operations in Katsina, including the proposed establishment of a new facility in Daura.
The Acting Director-General said the agency had already held discussions with the Emir of Daura and other stakeholders regarding land acquisition and the processing of a Certificate of Occupancy for the project.
As part of the engagement in the state, the delegation inspected Skill Acquisition Centres in communities including Ingawa, Kurfi, Malumfashi and Funtua to assess their operations and identify areas requiring additional support and expansion.
Governor Radda welcomed the NDE’s commitment to youth employment and directed that requests from the agency should receive immediate attention from relevant state authorities.
He also assured the delegation of the Katsina State Government’s full cooperation in supporting skills acquisition programmes and employment-focused initiatives targeted at young people.
The NDE said partnerships with state governments remain critical to its mandate of tackling unemployment and equipping Nigerians with practical and market-driven skills.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor Malam Faruk Lawal, senior officials of the Katsina State Government and members of the NDE management team.
