Chevron Nigeria Limited and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) have completed the training of 30 young Nigerian engineers and geoscientists in industrial automation, data analytics, international trade and logistics, project management, and entrepreneurship as part of efforts to strengthen local capacity in the oil and gas sector.
The beneficiaries participated in a 12-month intensive human capital development (HCD) programme implemented by Geoscape Nigeria Limited in connection with the supply of Zicornia perforated tiles and molecular sieve for the Escravos Gas-to-Liquids operation in Delta State.
The close-out ceremony held in Port Harcourt brought together officials from NCDMB, Chevron and Geoscape, with the programme positioned as part of a broader effort to equip Nigerian youths with practical industry-ready skills beyond classroom learning.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, represented by the Manager of Human Capital Development, Mrs. Tarilate Teide-Bribena, told the trainees that the programme was designed to prepare them to become solution providers in Nigeria’s economy and not just job seekers.
“You were not groomed merely to take jobs,” he said. “You were prepared to create solutions, to raise standards, and to lead locally with global competence.”
Ogbe noted that the training combined classroom sessions with hands-on technical experience across several specialised fields including industrial automation and control systems, logistics, entrepreneurship and data analytics. According to him, the participants now carry a responsibility to apply the skills with integrity, purpose and consistency.
He also commended Chevron for its commitment to Nigerian content development and praised Geoscape Nigeria Limited for delivering the programme professionally.
Chevron representative, Mr. Victor Inyere, described the initiative as more than the fulfilment of a contractual obligation, saying it reflected a deliberate investment in Nigerian talent development under the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act 2010.
According to him, the programme aligns with the long-term objective of building sustainable local capacity within the country’s energy sector while preparing Nigerian professionals for global competitiveness.
A representative of Geoscape also praised the trainees for their dedication throughout the programme. He said the company observed strong commitment and enthusiasm from participants during workshop sessions and practical exercises.
“I saw the fire in your involvement in the workshop activities,” he said while encouraging the graduates to remain focused on continuous personal and professional development.
The trainees, who underwent sessions in Lagos and Port Harcourt, expressed appreciation to Chevron, NCDMB and Geoscape for providing access to advanced technical training. Some participants recommended the inclusion of more practical sessions in future editions of the programme, especially around international courier operations and global logistics systems.
The programme adds to ongoing efforts by NCDMB and major oil companies to deepen local participation in technical and specialised areas of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry while improving employability for young professionals.
