The Federal Government has launched a digital data platform to attract investment into Nigeria’s tourism and creative industries, as part of a target to generate $100bn in gross domestic product (GDP) contribution and create more than three million jobs by 2030.
The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, announced the launch of the D30 Platform, also known as Destination 2030, in Abuja on Tuesday.
Musawa said the platform was developed to address gaps in reliable and accessible information about the country’s creative and tourism sectors. She described the lack of comprehensive data as a major obstacle to identifying opportunities, planning infrastructure and attracting investment.
The platform is expected to bring together sector data, research, mapping and economic intelligence to help investors, government agencies, businesses and entrepreneurs make informed decisions.
“Today, we are not simply unveiling a technology platform. We are taking a deliberate step towards changing how Nigeria understands, measures and harnesses the economic value of its cultural and creative assets,” the minister said.
The aim is clearer information for better investment decisions nationwide.
She cited examples of investors considering film production facilities, state governments planning tourism destinations and entrepreneurs seeking to expand creative businesses. D30, she said, would help such stakeholders identify opportunities and assess what infrastructure or support was needed.
The minister said the platform aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the ministry’s ambition to generate $100bn in GDP contribution and create more than three million jobs from tourism and the creative economy by 2030.
However, she stressed that the targets would require coordinated action, strategic investment, stronger institutions, improved infrastructure and an enabling business environment. The platform itself does not guarantee jobs or investment, but is intended to provide information that can support decisions.
Musawa also highlighted the link between tourism and creative industries. Nigerian music, films and festivals can attract visitors, she said, creating demand for hotels, restaurants, transport operators, tour services and other local businesses.
She urged ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), state governments, industry associations, private-sector operators and research institutions to contribute information. She said the government planned to protect the integrity and confidentiality of contributed data while making trusted, published intelligence available to stakeholders.
In his welcome address, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Abdulkarim Ozi, said D30 would provide a centralised source of information about Nigeria’s creative and tourism sectors.
Ozi said the platform could improve evidence-based policymaking, give investors clearer visibility of emerging opportunities and help businesses identify areas for expansion. He added that meeting the government’s job and GDP targets would require credible information, institutional partnerships, suitable infrastructure and an enabling environment.
Also speaking, Cavista Holdings Executive Director and Vice President for Government and External Affairs, Olumide Olayomi, said the company had committed private funding and technical expertise to develop the platform through its subsidiary, Cavista Technologies, in partnership with the ministry.
Olayomi said D30 brings together information on tourism infrastructure, attractions, cultural and creative industries, government interventions and creative professionals. He said its impact would depend on how effectively stakeholders use the information to attract investment, expand enterprises and generate employment.
He also cited Cavista Holdings’ hospitality investment through Glocient Hospitality, which owns and operates Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort and Conference Centre in Ekiti State.
Olayomi commended the ministry, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and other participating institutions, saying cooperation between government and private investors would be essential to turn the platform’s information into measurable economic outcomes.
