The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has released fresh guidance on the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), explaining how selected Nigerians will receive the Federal Government’s ₦50,000 support.

The ministry said beneficiaries are selected from the National Social Register and verified national identity records, based on poverty and vulnerability criteria across the six geopolitical zones. There is no public application or registration process, and nobody can pay to secure a place.

Each selected beneficiary will receive ₦50,000 as a grant, not a loan. The full amount is credited without deductions after the beneficiary follows the instructions in an official text message from an approved payment provider.

The five approved platforms and their Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) codes are:

  • ALAT by Wema Bank: *945*23#
  • MoMo Payment Service Bank (PSB): *671*0#
  • NairaGram: *726*00#
  • OPay: *955*20#
  • Moniepoint: *5573*27#

After receiving an SMS, beneficiaries should use the code or instructions provided by their designated platform to give consent. The money is then credited to their mobile wallet. The USSD service can be used without a smartphone or internet connection. Messages may arrive in batches, so beneficiaries should not panic unnecessarily.

The ministry warned that no government official, agent or third party can influence selection or fast-track payment. It also cautioned Nigerians against fake registration links and people demanding fees.

How to receive the ₦50,000

There is no form to complete. Wait for an official SMS from one of the five approved providers. Follow the instructions to accept the grant, then check your mobile wallet balance. Never disclose your Personal Identification Number (PIN), One-Time Password (OTP) or Bank Verification Number (BVN). Do not pay anyone to release the money. For enquiries or complaints, call the NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.
