The Abia State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has announced a compulsory revalidation exercise for all private schools, including approved, unapproved, and illegally operating institutions.

According to the Hon. Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, the revalidation process will run from June 18 to July 25, 2025, and cover all 17 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) in the state. “This revalidation is necessary to verify school credentials and ensure full regulatory compliance,” Ubochi stated in an official release.

The exercise will be conducted at the EMIS Office, Ministry of Basic & Secondary Education, located at the State Secretariat in Umuahia. It aims to curb the spread of illegal schools and improve the integrity of basic and secondary education across Abia State.

The Ministry clarified that the revalidation process is completely free. “Private school owners should not pay any money to anyone claiming to represent the Ministry,” the statement emphasized, warning against fraudulent agents.

School owners are required to bring both original and photocopies of key documents such as Registration Certificates, Annual Renewal Receipts, and Records of Prior Revalidations.

“This exercise underscores our commitment to quality control and educational accountability in Abia State,” Ubochi said. He also cautioned that “noncompliance or failure to appear on the scheduled date could attract regulatory sanctions, particularly for unapproved or illegal institutions.”
